“It wasn’t meant to be”

was something Adri often told her friends and family members when anything - a date, a job interview, or even a failed dinner recipe - went awry.

 

In May 2021, as David and Adri swiped right on each other. A conversation ensued that led to a date scheduled once David returned from a trip to the Dominican Republic. That Wednesday arrived, and Adri and David got themselves ready and drove independently to a nearby restaurant (Adri has listened to one too many crime podcasts and refused to be picked up on first dates, an important fact for later in the story).

 

David and Adri had dinner, played darts, skeeball, and ring toss. By all accounts, this had been a wonderful date. They both headed home with smiles on their faces. The next morning, Adri received a text from David that read, “How’s your Thursday going?”. Adri’s Thursday was actually very busy, and she forgot to respond to the text that whole day. Once she remembered on Friday, she felt it was too late to respond and decided it wasn’t meant to be.

 

Little did she know, she was oh so, so wrong.

Fast forward about a week later, David was giving his friend a ride home and was venting. He had gone on a wonderful date and the girl had not texted him back! He exclaimed “I’m so over dating!”

 

Little did he know, he was kinda right.
 

Once he arrived at his friends building, he stepped out of the car. Simultaneously, Adri was stepping out of her apartment to walk her dog, Macchiato. Adri and David locked eyes and did a double take. Was this the guy she had gone out with a week ago? Was this the girl who had ghosted him?! (Remember, he didn’t know where she lived.) They continued walking without saying a word. But, about 30 minutes later, Adri received a text: “I think I just saw you walking your dog!”
 

David and Adri have not gone a day without talking, since.
And so, it was meant to be after all!
